The Kingwood Township School District maintains a long and proud tradition of excellence in education. A committed staff and an active and involved community combine to provide a pleasant learning environment for all our students.
The mission of Kingwood School is to enable all of our students to reach their highest potential academically, physically, emotionally, and socially. The education community aims to foster positive attitudes as well as a thirst for lifelong learning. In addition, our school prides itself on its Character Counts education program that emphasizes six pillars of character: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, citizenship, and fairness.
Our programs, both curricular and co-curricular, are designed to challenge each student to reach for goals and accomplishments and experience success along the path to those goals. From kindergarten through eighth grade the Kingwood Township School student receives a strong academic foundation each step along the way with one year building upon the last. A literature and phonics based early education program expands into a multi-faceted curriculum in all content areas, focusing on technology, and hands-on and differentiated learning. These areas are integrated within each other to provide a coordinated program throughout. In addition to the standard curricular offerings, instruction includes Art, Music, Physical Education, Health, Computer Technology, Foreign Language (Spanish grades 3-8) and Library/Media Center requirements.
Kingwood offers a full range of special education programs and services. Our child study team is well educated and involved in scheduling, PAC, inclusion programs, in-class support as well as out of class small group instruction. Speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy and adaptive physical education are also provided for students.
Co-curricular activities such as baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, ski club, key club, yearbook, bowling, drama club, computer club, dances and others are made available to students. Community sponsored activities such as scouting, 4-H club, and sports meet regularly at Kingwood School.
The staff at Kingwood Township School is consistently working with neighboring schools in the Delaware Valley Region on curriculum review and revision. Each of the school districts along with the receiving high school district work together to update each curriculum and align it with the Core Content Standards. The focus of these articulation meetings is the student and how best they can achieve the standards set forth in the new curriculum.
In addition to the ongoing regional effort, every staff member at Kingwood Township School has a curriculum committee assignment each school year. Time is set aside to work on various areas of curriculum and reports and changes are made through the administration on progress in these areas. The Kingwood Township School staff is continually updating their knowledge and techniques through various staff development opportunities. Also, our local staff development committee is working on new and progressive opportunities for teachers to be trained in computer technology, computer integration, inclusion and writing across the curriculum. One staff development program instituted is teacher training teachers on computers. Several staff members were certified to teach various computer technologies. They then held mini courses both during and after school to train their fellow staff members.
Our community and parents are very supportive in our efforts to achieve academic success. They have created an educational foundation that distributes grants to teachers in the school to support innovative and creative projects. Our PTA is also very strong in providing financial support with many programs and has created a large volunteer parent program that supports the schools many activities and programs throughout the year. The Board of Education provides time, money, and support both contractually, financially, and in spirit, to insure the students and staff of Kingwood Township School are on target to address core curriculum requirements and future demands.
